56% of African American 4th graders are functionally illiterate. The achievement gap costs America about $500 billion dollars a year. Help bring much needed change to the ailing public school system by creating a short film (1 ½-2 minutes) demonstrating the need for education reform. The winning short film will receive $1,000 and a screening at THE LOTTERY’s New York City premiere.

THE LOTTERY, a feature-length documentary, delves into the ferocious debate surrounding the education reform movement, tracking four families as they apply to the high-stakes, low-odds lottery for access to a better school, and a better future. 18+, 90 – 120 seconds, Deadline: March 26th 2010
