Every year since we can remember (2007), we’ve been announcing the Doritos “Crash the Superbowl Contest” and every year it’s been getting bigger and bigger. More money, more brand associations and more entries! For 2012, however, the company has seemingly taken it down a notch by eliminating the PepsiMax portion, scaling back the prize pool and promising to air only one video instead of the six that aired for 2011.
Regardless of whether this is a response to some of last year’s criticism that too many “unworthy” entries made it to national television, the fact remains: YOUR VIDEO BETTER BE GOOD!
Create a 30 seconds ad for Doritos that’s action packed, funny, dramatic and/or just plain awesome! Check out last year’s finalists and winner to see what made it to air HERE.
Doritos has also come up with some cool prize twists this time around. Five finalists will be selected by Doritos and will receive a check for $25,000. These five entries will be posted online to be narrowed into a single grand prize selection.
Critics can rest assured that this time, the choice is in the hands of YOU…the public! While I’m not always a huge fan of popularity contest voting, the mass awareness of this contest leads me to believe that the best entry will indeed make it to the Super Bowl stardom. In classic CTSB tradition, the USA Today AdMeter results will decide the final cash prize. $1,000,000 if the ad hits the #1 spot, $600,000 for #2 and $400,000 for #3.
In addition, Doritos is also offering up a cool opportunity to work with some Hollywood pros. The grand prize winner will get the chance to make a future Doritos commercial with the help of The Lonely Island! If you haven’t heard of them, then you need to watch this VIDEO immediately!
We can’t wait to see what you guys will come up with this year. Happy filming!

Our spot “Good as Gold” filmed only days before the contest deadline. We made the deadline with only a few hours to spare. Story by Lori Cunningham & Drue Pennella. Produced by Drue & myself.

Thought I had a good chance this year. Went crazy and shot 3 spots on the RED, but they would have contacted me long ago… You can check mine out here:
