For the first 15 years the Scottish Highland village of Carrbridge hosted the Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship, no American had even entered the competition, let alone won. But all of that changed in 2009 when Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods decided to take on the challenge. At the 16th annual event, the company competed for the first time and came home with the highly coveted Golden Spurtle trophy and the title of “World’s Best Oats”! Bob’s Red Mill has been competing ever since, and in 2011 the company turned to its fan for help with the inaugural Spar for the Spurtle contest. The contest was such a hit, it’s back for a second go-around!
The video contest invites oatmeal enthusiasts to submit entries demonstrating an original recipe that makes use of Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oats – the official “World’s Best Oatmeal.” From the entries, three finalists will be flown to Portland, Ore., to compete in a live cook-off, and the winner of that cook-off will travel with the Bob’s Red Mill team to compete in the 19th annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship in Scotland this October.
The winner of the live cook-off will receive the grand prize, which includes the following:
