  • “Toot Your Own Horn” Video Contest – $1,000
    by
    Posted May 20th, 2014 at 1:00 am

Sometimes having a big ego isn’t all that bad. Take ProjectED’s new video contest, “Toot Your Own Horn” for example. The educational contest website is calling for videos that define words about being self-congratulatory and boastful. Check your humbleness at the door because there are some great cash prizes up for grabs!

Entering isn’t difficult either. First, select from one of the following words: gloat, glorified, laud, ostentation, gaudy, eminence, magnanimous, prodigious. Next, create a short video (less than 1 minute) that visually defines the word. You are actually going to add text over the video to create a video definition. Be creative and keep in mind that your video is being judged on:

    • Educational merit and accuracy: Your video achieves the educational goals presented in the contest brief and viewers learn intended material from your video.
    • Creativity and engagement: Your video presents educational content in a memorable way; viewers are compelled to watch the video to completion. Does your video convey its message in an artistic, creative and innovative way?
    • Quality of video production: Your video has high resolution and audio quality, effectively employs visual aesthetics and cinematography and demonstrates production skills.
    • Appropriate content: Your video does not contain indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory, or offensive material.

If selected, your winning video will earn you a $1,000 cash prize along with the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped viewers gain a new understanding of your selected word. Head over to the contest page below to get started. Happy filming!

  • Take A Second Video Contest – Prize
    by
    Posted May 3rd, 2014 at 10:35 am

Seconds matter. It only takes a few of them to change the world. So now the National Education Environmental Foundation is calling for individuals to put aside a few of the 80,000 seconds in a day to make a small change. Even better is that it’s a part of their “Take A Second” video contest which means you could also win some awesome prizes in the process!

Grab your smartphone camera and fire up Instagram or Vine. Create a 6-15 second video showcasing how you can take a second to help impact the environment. Originality and creativity is always encouraged and sure to score you brownie points. NEEF cites the EPA as stating that for every 100 million Americans turning off the faucet while brushing their teeth, 292 BILLION gallons of water would be saved annually. That’s a pretty staggering fact and tips like those are going to translate into a powerful video. Be sure to use the hashtag #TakeASec once you post to Instagram or Vine. You should also check out the VIDEO GALLERY to see what’s already been posted.

NEEF is not holding back on the prizes either. The first place winner will receive a brand new Apple Macbook Air (valued at $1099). Second place takes home an iPad Air and even third place walks away with a $300 REI gift card. Not bad for 6-15 seconds of video! Visit the contest page below to get started. Good luck!

  • “Appearances Matter” GIF Contest – $200
    by
    Posted April 22nd, 2014 at 11:11 pm

Despite what anyone says, appearances matter (and most say they do anyways). Lucky for us, we’re living in a contest world where the only appearances that truly matter, are those that end up onscreen. ProjectED, however, has decided to unleash their shallow side and launch a video contest based solely on appearances. Well…at least based on words that describe appearance. Introducing, the “Appearances Matter” GIF Contest!

To enter this contest, you’re going to select one of the following words: livid, florid, stout, lurid, bulky, blanched, blotched. Once you find a suitable word, grab the definition from the contest site and create an animated GIF that portrays that word. That means you’ll be displaying the word, definition and part of speech onscreen in your GIF. Check out the sample above to get a better idea.

The best part of all? ProjectED is giving away a $200 grand prize to the winner. And once you realize that it’s possible to create a quality GIF in minutes (Make a GIF in 5 Easy Steps), that cash becomes a great opportunity. Check out the contest page today!

GIFs are evaluated based on the following criteria, weighed equally:

    • Educational merit and accuracy: Your submission achieves the educational goals presented in the contest brief and viewers learn intended material from your video.
    • Creativity and Engagement: Your submission presents educational content in an artistic and innovative way.
    • Appropriate content: Your submission does not contain indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory, or offensive material.
    • In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken on the basis of the tied entrants’ scores in the “Educational merit and accuracy” criteria.

    13+, 5mb-, Deadline: May 19th 2014
